As farmers use pesticides to extend the lives of their crops, fruits and vegetables become ridden with harmful chemical residue that is bad for the health. These are the dirtiest fruits and vegetables that need to be thoroughly cleaned before consumption.

Strawberries

Soak strawberries for at least 2 minutes in water before eating. The tiny seeds in strawberries make this fruit difficult to clean. When purchasing strawberries, buy locally grown organic to prevent buying pesticide-laden fruit.

Apples

Apples are sprayed with over 42 different pesticides to kill bugs, pests and insects. Apples are also covered with wax to give them a shiny appearance. Avoid buying apples that smell and look waxy.

Spinach

Spinach is sprayed with 48 different pesticides to prevent damage caused by the leaf minor beetle. Buy frozen spinach because it's washed and blanched before it's frozen.

Peaches

Peaches are the biggest culprits of them all. Soft skinned fruit is tougher to wash and more vulnerable to pesticides. Peaches are sprayed with over 62 different pesticides. Always buy peaches organic.

Grapes

Since grapes have soft skins like peaches, they are naturally more vulnerable to pesticide residues. Soak your grapes in a little vinegar and water before eating.
